Inside Fluxspace: An Intern's Perspective

As a rising college senior searching for a place to be inspired, gain real world professional experience, and expand beyond what I have learned in the classroom, Fluxspace has opened my eyes to an entirely new perspective on the professional world. From innovative solar powered SmartFlowers to professionally produced STEM media, every experience has challenged me to think differently and shown me how creativity, technology, and education can come together to make a meaningful impact.

Throughout my internship, I have been granted the creative freedom to help showcase everything Fluxspace has to offer. With the guidance of experienced mentors, I have helped develop engaging STEM focused media shorts designed to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences of all ages. This opportunity has strengthened my communication, research, public speaking, and storytelling skills while teaching me how to present scientific concepts in an engaging and easy to understand way.

In addition to content creation, I have worked with many different technologies and educational tools. I have researched and explored STEM technologies such as 3D printers and laser cutters, environmentally sustainable innovations such as indoor farming systems and SmartFlower solar technology, and the ways thoughtful room design, immersive virtual reality environments, and educational spaces can positively influence learning, creativity, and human behavior. Every project has reinforced the importance of innovation, collaboration, and curiosity. The experiences and skills I have gained will undoubtedly accelerate my professional growth and help distinguish me throughout my career.

While Fluxspace’s physical technologies and hands-on opportunities have been a highlight of my internship, the people have made the greatest impact. Being surrounded by professionals who are not only knowledgeable but also empathetic, encouraging, and genuinely invested in my development has made all the difference. Whether I needed advice, honest feedback, or simply reassurance, I always knew I had a team willing to help me succeed.

I would be lying if I said this internship didn’t challenge me. I can’t count on my fingers the number of times I had to restart projects from scratch, miss delivered a vision, disliked my own work, or simply felt stuck. Yet those setbacks have become some of my greatest learning experiences because I was encouraged to keep improving rather than give up. The patience, mentorship, and trust shown by everyone around me pushed me to solve problems, embrace mistakes as part of the process, and become a more resilient, confident professional. Looking back, I realize that the lessons I learned through adversity will stay with me far longer than any single project I completed.

My internship at Fluxspace has been an incredibly unique and rewarding experience. The opportunity to work independently while being supported by such an inspiring team is something I will always be grateful for. As I prepare to enter the professional world, I leave with new skills, greater confidence, and experiences that will set me apart throughout my career. I look forward to returning to Fluxspace one day to see how it continues to grow and inspire others. Until then, I am excited for the next intern who will have the opportunity to learn, create, and make their own impact in this remarkable environment.
