Fox Chapel High School - Podcasting Studio

AI Summary:

Fluxspace partnered with Fox Chapel High School to transform an underutilized corner of the library into a dedicated podcasting studio. The new space gives students a flexible environment to create, collaborate, and develop their communication skills while exploring the growing world of podcasting. Designed with both functionality and creativity in mind, the studio provides students with new opportunities to bring their ideas to life.

As schools look for new ways to support student creativity and communication, dedicated spaces can make a big difference. At Fluxspace, we’re always looking for new ways to help schools experiment with emerging ideas, technologies, and learning experiences. The podcasting studio at Fox Chapel High School is one example of how an underutilized space can be reimagined to support new opportunities for student learning and creativity.

Before

With podcasting becoming a growing part of student projects at Fox Chapel High School, students needed a designated space to record and produce their work. Students had been using an adjacent room to record podcasts from their computers. While this was a good start, it wasn't ideal for their needs regarding both space and equipment for creating high-quality podcasts.

The solution was right inside the library. A small, underutilized nook that was no longer needed for books provided the perfect opportunity to transform an unused space into something new and useful for students.

During

The first step in the transformation was to remove the existing bookshelves and construct a new wall to separate the area from the rest of the library. Creating this defined space provided the podcasting program with a dedicated studio and made productive use of an under-used area.

After

The finished studio provides students with a professional-quality podcasting experience. The space features a RODECaster Pro II podcasting kit with options for a four-person formal table setup or a casual two-person lounge setup. Acoustic panels were added to reduce echo and better control the sound within the space.

The district plans to continue evolving the studio by adding school decals and a student-designed mural to the walls, giving the space a personal connection to the school community.

What began as an underutilized corner of the library is now a dedicated space for students to create, collaborate, and share their ideas. It’s a small transformation with the potential to open up new creative opportunities for many students.
